State metrology service (VMT)
as an independent institution was established
under the resolution of the Government of
Republic of Lithuania No 105 of 27 January 1998,
following reorganisation of Lithuanian
standardisation department into three
institutions.
Under resolution of the Government of Republic
of Lithuania No 321 of 20 March 1998, State
metrology service was authorised to carry out
metrology policy in Lithuania, co-ordinate
uniformity of measurements, organise and carry
out scientific, legal and administrative
activities in metrology field.
State metrology service (VMT) is a founder of
five state companies - metrology centres:
SC Vilnius metrology centre
SC Kaunas metrology centre
SC Klaipeda metrology centre
SC Panevezys metrology centre
SC Siauliai metrology centre
Furthermore, State metrology service (VMT) is a
founder of four measuring instruments repair
companies:
SC "Matas" (Vilnius)
SC "Skale" (Kaunas)
SC "Rodykle" (Klaipeda)
SC "Svertuvas" (Panevezys)
According to the resolution of the Government of
Republic of Lithuania No 518 of 27 May 1997 on
procedure of approval, keeping and use of state
measurement standards and on the approval of the
list of state measurement standards and of state
laboratories, authorised to establish and
maintain state measurement standards, Lithuanian
standards department (after reorganisation on 27
January 1998 - State metrology service) was
committed to co-ordinate works on establishment,
keeping and use of state measurement standards,
establish priority order for succession and
level of the standards, taking into account
needs and economic capabilities of Lithuania. |
